With sparkling blue seas, verdant rainforests, abundant wildlife and distant mountains this small and intimate lodge offers you your choice of serenity or adventure. Leave your stresses and strains behind and relax into the ebb and flow of the tide, the haggling sound of the local fishermen, the slow unchanging life of the village.

Nestled into a forest fringed cove, the five luxury bungalows are well-appointed and lead directly onto pristine white sand beaches and the azure waters of the Indian Ocean. Each room offers a private terrace with hammock, a super king-sized and a single bed, 270° windows, a full en-suite with hot fresh water, a walk-in shower, 24h solar electric, 220V sockets, indoor and outdoor seating areas, mosquito nets, ocean view, sun loungers and a room safe. Outside seating lets you unwind as you watch a perfect sunset or relax around a large fireplace and chimney on soft cushions. The ocean side location means a mouthwatering feast of lobsters, oysters, mussels, and fresh fish flows from the open kitchen.

Here nature is your playground with distant mountains, lush rainforests, white sand beaches and the lapping waters of the Indian Ocean all at your doorstep. Take full advantage of the location straddling land and sea to offer you a rich variety of sea, shore and rainforest-based activities. Search the rainforest day and night for the five different species of lemur in the area, go snorkeling to uncover underwater mysteries, visit the nearby fisherman's village, kayak, or head up the mangroves to encounter crocodiles and unique birds.

As the sun rises over rugged mountains, the distant singing of the local tribe as they fetch water from the river and the morning calls of the Coucal and Crested Coua welcome you to another glorious day on the banks of the Mandrare River. The seclusion of the camp affords intimate access and insight to the spiny forest; home to an abundance of unique wildlife and the fascinating Antandroy tribe that inhabit this arid and otherworldly landscape.

Enjoy luxury en-suite tents, generously spread out in the shade of Tamarind trees, all with breathtaking views across the tranquil water to the sacred mountains beyond. Set overlooking the river and a golden sunrise, the fully equipped seven bespoke tents allow you to relax, sleep well, and invigorate your soul. The ornate wooden furniture in each tent is individually hand carved to depict a different local wildlife theme--chameleon, lemur, gecko, baobab, radiated tortoise and heron. The singing of children by the river, accompanied by the calls of birds and other forest animals, are the perfect serenade as you enjoy our exquisite food.

Mandrare is a great place from which to explore the unique spiny and gallery forest and search for something previously unseen. There are many opportunities for adventure. Search the forests day and night for the ten different species of lemur in the area, visit the sacred forests, the baobab trees at sunset, learn about the local villagers and their ancestors and visit the local markets.
