Marangu Hotel began its history as a farmhouse built in the early 1900s. We opened our doors to guests in the early 1920s and started organizing mountain climbs in the 1930s. We are a family-owned business, with a long history and deep connection to Kilimanjaro and Tanzania.
Marangu Hotel is nestled amongst 12 lush acres, with a variety of exotic trees and flowering shrubs. There are magnificent views of Mount Kilimanjaro from Marangu Hotel’s gardens. Guests can enjoy a clear view of Kili’s peaks – the iconic, ice-capped Kibo and the rocky Mawenzi – while enjoying a cool drink! This is a great spot to prepare for your upcoming climb on Mt Kilimanjaro. You can rest up in the comfortable bedrooms, stretch your legs exploring the sprawling gardens (a birdwatchers paradise!) or simply relax by the pool with a good book.
Marangu Hotel has long been a part of the Marangu community, with one of the founding families donating much of the land around the area to local families. Marangu Hotel has been involved in a number of building and improvement projects with local schools and has supplied equipment and workmen to assist the Rotary Club with their many projects in the area.
