Knysna Elephant Park was the first facility in South Africa to house and care for orphaned African elephants. Over the last twenty years, the park has cared for and raised more than forty elephants. These animals include relocated animals, orphaned calves, elephants rescued from culls and ex-circus animals. Some have become part of the resident herd, others have moved onto other reserves and facilities in the Western and Eastern Cape, depending on their personalities, bonds with other animals and welfare needs.

The present KEP herd numbers nine – the largest domesticated matriarchal herd in the country. Our style of management offers guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with our elephants, on elephant terms. Responsible and educational interactions allow guests to appreciate the awe-inspiring presence of these animals, but still give the elephants the space and freedom to choose where they want to move, what they want to eat and who they want to interact with. There are no fences to spoil the close encounter and our environment encourages elephants to exhibit natural behaviors.

Set on one of the biggest working Ostrich farms in Southern Africa, this AfriCamps location is one to experience. Besides the Ostriches a big portion of the farm has been made available to a wide variety of free-roaming game. It is that part of the farm where you will find 5 of the luxury boutique camping tents positioned around a big water dam. Located in the middle of a pristine Karoo landscape with direct views on the Swartberg Mountains, AfriCamps Klein Karoo offers you the perfect backdrop to relax in the tranquil surroundings of this serene majestic farm.

Farmer Piet Schoeman is always proud to say that AfriCamps Klein Karoo is not an ostrich show farm but an authentic working ostrich farm where people can see and learn everything about this uniquely South African farming activity. 20.000 ostriches are kept mainly for the production and worldwide export of ostrich meat, leather and feathers. A big portion of the 10.000 Ha farm has been made available to a wide variety of free-roaming indigenous game like zebra, springbok, blue wildebeest, kudu, impala, eland, waterbuck and njala.

Located just off the Garden Route, about an hour north from George, this farm makes the perfect mid-way stop between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth. Oudtshoorn has something for everyone in the family, explore the famous Cango Caves, take a drive through the scenic Swartberg Mountain pass, go on a Meerkat adventure or embrace local culture at one of the many festivals that run throughout the year.

The cottages are whitewash-walled fisherman-style houses characteristic of the Western Cape Coast. Ideal for a family and friends getaway, the cottages are well appointed and provide guests with a home-from-home setting. The De Hoop Village forms part of the Opstal area, which offers the largest amount of accommodation in the De Hoop Collection and is close to the hub of central offices, restaurant, deli and shop. It is a short drive, hike or cycle to many of the interesting locations in the reserve.

Few other reserves offer as complete an outdoor experience as De Hoop – sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope and the Potberg Mountains. Birders observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists have close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, baboons and ostrich. Activities are diverse and guests choose between various day walks through the rich fynbos plains or along the deserted coastline, or mountain biking along the many gravel roads or scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkeling in the many turquoise rock pools is simply another way to pass a rewarding day.
